500mm lens - this would be art :)
As I'm sure I've said before in my posts at one point or another, things that fly and my capturing never seem to be in sync. On a nice wildflower hike, saw the golden streak of a Goldfinch in the sky, and followed it down as it landed about 100 yards from me, joining a group lounging in the late afternoon sun. Eight Goldfinches - I was in heaven. The American Goldfinch might be the state bird of NJ, but I rarely see them. Threw on my 200mm knowing I would have to get a lot closer, and started creeping, shooting as I walked; a bad idea with the settings I was using, but I was so excited. Didn't get closer than 50 yards when they started flying off one by one. Grainy and fuzzy and by no means a photo for the Audubon Society, but I have never captured a group of birds like this, except for maybe seagulls or pigeons, and I probably never will again - I need to share it :)
Heading down to the shore again tonight until Monday and most likely won't have any internet access. Hope the weekend is a great one, and a safe and happy 4th to all!!
