Spotted this new leaf just popping out on a nice forest hike. Rain today after some very nice sunny days.
After hours of research I could not come up with a name for yesterdays flower. Might have to phone a friend (ie a local professional). Thanks to all for the wonderful comments and hope everyone is having a great weekend.

A great shrub in my area, the large Fothergilla, sometimes called Witch Alder. Love when they blossom - no petals, just clusters of white stamens. <br />

Do you have a shot of the entire plant from yesterday's flower? Might be easier to identify if we could see any leaves that were on it, general size, etc. Just trying to be helpful. I've asked my expert before for help identifying things I've taken pics of, and he always reminds me to take wide angle shot. I keep forgetting:-)
